I’ve been sitting with identity a lot.
I wrote about identity and non-attachment (find it here) as I was coming to terms with all the shifts happening in my life. Since then some of those shifts have concluded, some are still in motion. And as this season begins to shift into the next, I feel a deep call to evolve as well.
But personal evolution is hard, even if change is a constant.
And while we may step into a new chapter, the previous ones don’t disappear.
"We both step and do not step into the same river, we both are and are not." – Heraclitus, Homeric Allegories
I wrote in my journal last week, “I’m every layer all at once. I’m each of my Kosha bodies, I’m each of my childhood experiences, I’m each of my relationships and I’m equally of my successes and my failures. I’m made up of dreams I have now, the ones I set down and the ones I haven’t met yet.”
I’m learning to see the beauty in those complexities.
I carry the entirety of who I’ve been with me, and they inform who will come next.
And this is where I’m also grateful for my meditation practice, my daily puja and the path of yoga that’s been graciously handed down to me.
Because sometimes I do get stuck in certain layers. Sometimes I’m not able to let go of one so the next can grow. But these practices remind me to be present with what is, compassionate and open. If you’re sitting with your own evolution, a call to change, I invite you to find the practices that will support all the layers of your being too.
