Practice: Body Scan Meditation for Releasing Tension

for when the body feels a little too tight or rigid

Thanks for reading to see the goodness! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. When you subscribe it lets me know you value the messages and practices provided here.

Before we get into the practice a couple announcements!

First, I’m excited to let you know I’ll be teaching donation based classes twice a month through Insight Timer. You can download the app (it’s free!) and check out my first live event on June 11 by clicking here. Some of my meditations are available there as well (if you prefer that format to Substack).

Second, you’ll see I’ve turned on paid subscriptions for the newsletter. Don’t worry, offering accessible practices and writings is still my goal! I decided to turn the option on in case you’re able to support my work. Paid subscribers get access to my full class library (practices are archived after six months) and some exclusive pre-recorded classes.

Before we move on I want you to know that however you show up in this space - free, paid, reading every email or jumping in occasionally - I’m grateful you’re here!

Now onto today’s practice….

Welcome to your body scan meditation for releasing tension.

I love body scans for releasing tightness within the body, because this technique helps me open up to rest, release, and come back to the present moment with a little more softness in the body.

And so I invite you to use this practice when the body feels a little too tight or rigid.

This is an invitation to slow down and be here.

I’ll guide you through a head to toe body scan, stopping along the way to breathe into each space and ending with a short affirmation practice. And if at any point the practice doesn’t feel right, if a place within the body is too intense to be with, know that you have full permission to release the technique or focus on an area of the body that is comfortable to be with.

This is the exact practice I did before writing this post, after a long day of emailing and internal debates about turning on paid subscriptions.

It was exactly what I needed to be able to soften - so I could listen in to what my intuition wanted me to hear.

As always, let’s chat in the comments. ❤️
